Ask a frontier model to explain the difference between two washing machines and it will do a better job than most sales assistants. Ask it what either one costs right now and the ground gets softer. Those are two different capabilities, and only one of them has been solved.
Reasoning is solved. Retrieval is not.
A language model's knowledge of a product category is broad and, for durable facts, reliable. A price is not a durable fact. It is a number that changed this morning, differs by seller, and depends on whether the item is in stock at all. Answering it correctly requires fetching it now.
Whether an assistant can fetch it depends on permission. Retailers decide which crawlers may read their listings, and they do not all decide the same way. This is why the same assistant can be superb on one store's catalogue and vague about another's, and why a confident-sounding price in a chat window deserves a click-through before you act on it.

The practical split
Use a general assistant for the first half of a purchase and a specialised one for the second. The first half is "what am I looking for, and which specifications actually matter for how I will use it". That is reasoning, and ChatGPT and Perplexity are excellent at it.
The second half is "of the specific items matching that specification, which one, at which store, at what price today". That is retrieval and ranking over live inventory, and it wants a tool pointed at exactly that.
What we built, and what we did not
xbbuy is ours. We chose two retailers rather than fifty, which is a real limitation and a deliberate one: we run our own scrapers against Amazon and Walmart, capture the price with a timestamp, and keep price history so we can tell you whether today's number is actually a good one or just a number. Doing that well across fifty stores is a different and much shallower product.
We rank on buyer reviews and total value, never on who pays us, and the structural reason to believe that is that Walmart pays us nothing. Amazon pays a small affiliate commission; Walmart pays zero. Pointing you to Walmart costs us money every time.
What we do not do: we do not cover fifty retailers, we are US-only, we have no browser extension watching your other tabs, and we do not assert that two listings are the same product unless a shared identifier proves it. On the searches where we cannot prove it, you get both listings and no cheaper-of-the-two claim.
If you take one thing from this: an assistant's answer is only as good as what it was allowed to fetch. When money is involved, prefer the tool that shows you the price and the time it was checked over the one that states it with confidence and no timestamp.
